Hey, ya'll,
Welcome in, to my very first journal entry on my blog, Idlewild Homestead.
I am excited to share my journey as my family, and I navigate the world of homesteading in the high desert mountains of New Mexico.
My name is Carole Sheldon.
I am the mother of twin daughters, Hazelnut and Sadiebug, and the wife of my best friend and husband, Steven.
Although I grew up as a city girl in Las Vegas, Nevada, our life took a different turn after my husband left active duty service in the United States Navy.
In search of a slower, more intentional lifestyle, we packed our seabags for "the country," as we call it, to learn how to grow and preserve food (and flowers) for our family and, hopefully, one day, our local community.
During the day, I work full-time outside the home, and in the evenings, I tackle homesteading projects with my family.
While I am not an expert, this blog will document what works for us in hopes of inspiring you on your own homesteading journey.
If you're anything like me, you know how challenging it can be to balance motherhood, managing a home, working full-time, and taking on homesteading projects. But that's the beauty of this journey—it's a slow and steady process, and each day offers something new to learn and be grateful for!
This coming December, we will enter our fourth year of laying the foundation for our homestead, specifically focusing on our garden.
After years of preparation, this will be the first year that we will plant our kitchen and culinary gardens in raised beds!
If you are interested in learning about what we're planting this year in our garden or if you're curious about southwest-inspired home decor or homestyle recipes, please consider subscribing to my Substack so you never miss a post!
In the meantime - sending you sunshine and sunflowers from the high desert,
